St. Augustine of Hippo
Doctor of Grace
Acrylic on window pane
As we near Epiphany, I thought I’d share one of my favorite projects—a Saint Series I did for my parents, presenting them with a saint painted on a window for the last few years. (Windows are often a symbol in art of spiritual illumination and they add an interesting dimension when I paint a halo on the back as if it’s floating above the head of the Saint.) This is the last of the series I did for my parents since they don’t have much more room to hold more than five. —– This last one was of Saint Augustine of Hippo, an early Christian theologian and the official church Doctor of Grace. Augustine believed that one is indebted to live a holy life because of the Grace that has been given. I’ve received a lot of grace this year, so Augustine seemed like the perfect gift for my gracious parents.
Gang’s all here! Left to right: Augustine, Francis, Nicolas.
